The proposed Geopark Djerdap is a part of the southwestern Carpathian arc i.e. “Tethyan Eurasian Metallogenic Belt” or “Apuseni-Banat-Timok-Srednogorie belt” (Janković, 1977; Berza et al., 1998) and has been particularly interesting area due to its complex geological evolution during Mesozoic – Tertiary time.
